Introduction:

So today I came up with a new series of recipes, Easy Snacks Box recipes. This recipe was first made by me when we had an unexpected movie evening with no snacks or popcorn. So I made this and it was absolutely a nice replacement for popcorns. These are even very much good for health and preparation takes not more than 15 minutes. Come on chefs, put on aprons and hat  and get into the kitchen.

Ingredients:

To prepare these two makhana recipes you'll need

  • a tablespoon of unsalted butter (for each recipe)
  • Country cane sugar 2 table spoons
  • Makhana - 2 cups
  • Salt 3pinches
  • Chat masala - a small spoonfull
How to prepare?:

Let's start this by melting a tablespoon of butter , keep stove on simmer. Now after the butter getting melted completely add the country cane sugar. Stir it continously and you'll see a creamy consistency. Put one full cup of makhanas and mix it and turn off the stove immediately. After cooling separate the makhanas as it might have bind together as cane sugar caramelizes. Now take anothe pan and melt the butter. when the butter is melted, add three pinches ofsalt, simmer the stove and put one full cup of makhanas. Roast them well until it turns golden yellow. Put off the stove and transfer the roasted makhanas into a glass container and add chatmasala a teaspoonful. Now close the container and give it a shake so that chat masala mixes with all the makhanas. You can even replace chat masala with popcorn masala or creamcheese onion masala or periperi masala.

Preparation time: 15 minutes

Serving suggestion:

you can eat sweet makhanas by dipping it in melted chocolate or any chocolate spread. you can eat masala makhanas with onions, tomatoes and other veggies to make it as a makhana salad.

Health advisory:

Makhanas are good for health and if you store it in a air tight container it will remain crunchy and good even outside the fridge for a week. But if you see any white spongy or black spongy layer, discard it as it might have undergone microbial activity. Ask elders before feeding toddlers.

Kids advisory:

As usual, My master chef kiddos should try this amazing recipe but completely under the supervision of mama or dada. Be careful while using knife and stove even when you're under supervision. Clean well the veggies as well your tiny little hands before starting to cook. You have to wait until the recipe gets cooled down before tasting so that your tiny little tongue or hand not getting burnt.

Health benefits of makhanas:

Makhanas, also known as fox nuts or lotus seeds, are a super snack packed with health benefits. They are low in calories but high in protein and fiber, making them ideal for kids and adults alike. Rich in antioxidants like flavonoids, makhanas help fight inflammation and keep the body’s cells healthy. They support heart health by lowering cholesterol levels and improving blood pressure regulation. The high magnesium content in makhanas is great for bone strength and energy production, while their low glycemic index makes them safe for people managing blood sugar levels. Being gluten-free and easily digestible, they’re gentle on little tummies, making them a perfect pick for school snacks or guilt-free munching at any time of day. Whether roasted, spiced, or caramel-coated, makhanas bring both crunch and nutrition in every bite.
